State Capitol Parking and Transportation Information (with Maps!)


Information about parking and transportation to the Minnesota State Capitol for the Twin Cities March Against Monsanto. See entire post for several maps and information.


EVENT PARKING

Instructions for public event parking available through Plant Management:

  1. Public parking is available from Plant Management in the green areas as noted. Look for areas labeled “Public Disabled” and “Metered” on this map. 
  2. There is no charge for “Metered” parking shown on this map after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on weekends. Meters must be “fed” on weekdays before 5:00 p.m. Meters take quarters only. Maximum times available will vary depending on meter location, and will be posted on the meter. See Item 5 below for special parking arrangements. 

  3. Public parking in the Centennial Parking Ramp is available on the Orange Level only. The entrance to the Orange Level is on Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. 

  4. Metered street parking (not shown on this map) is available. Street parking regulations are enforced and monitored by the City of St. Paul, not by the State nor by Plant Management on the State’s behalf. Please check parking information posted on the meters for enforcement times. 

  5. There is no public parking authorized for event parking in the Red lots. Special parking arrangements can be made for after hours and weekend events through the event application process. Event attendees please check with your event coordinator.

  6. Public parking is not available on Aurora Ave. during legislative session.

 

 


Bus / light rail
Unfortunately the light-rail line is not expected to be completed by May 24th.

Bus routes serving the State Capitol area:   3, 16, 62, 67, 68, 71, 75, 94, 262  
Freeway express bus service is available. Call the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC), (612) 827-7733, for your specific route information.

Bike Racks

Bike racks on the Minnesota State Capitol Complex are available in the following locations:
  • Administration Building - Bike rack on east (Cedar Street) side of building.
  • Capitol Building - Bike rack on northeast side of building (by Parking Lot O).
  • Cedar Street Ramp (Andersen Building) - Bike rack located inside parking area on east side of building.
  • Centennial Office Building - Bike rack on west (Cedar Street) side of building.
  • Freeman Building/Ag Health Lab - Bike rack placed between these two buildings.
  • Minnesota History Center - Bike rack on east side of building.
  • 14th Street Lot - Bike rack in lot.
  • Transportation Building - Bike rack on the west side building (by Parking Lot F).
  • Veteran Services Building - Bike rack on center courtyard, northwest side.

Disability Parking

Public disability parking is available throughout the Capitol Complex. This parking is in close proximity to building accessibility entrances. Vehicles must display either a disability parking certificate or a disability license plate issued by the Department of Public Safety.

Parking Lots - SEE 'EVENT PARKING' AT TOP

Metered lot parking is available at the following locations on the Capitol Complex:
  • Andersen Ramp
  • Centennial Ramp
  • Lot AA
  • Lot F
  • Lot H
  • Lot K
  • Lot L
  • Lot Q
  • Lot U
  • Lot W
Metered lot parking is controlled by Admin Plant Management. These state parking facilities are patrolled and electronically monitored by Capitol Security Division of the Department of Public Safety. Capitol Security enforces parking in these areas. Capitol Security is also available to provide an escort service to your car. Call 651-201-6974 to request an escort and allow up to 20 minutes for escort to arrive.

Street Parking - SEE 'EVENT PARKING' AT TOP

Metered city street parking is available at the following locations:
  • John Ireland Boulevard, east and west sides 
  • Front of the Department of Transportation Building
  • Cedar Street, east and west sides
  • Front of the Centennial Office Building
  • Sherburne Avenue, one block north of the Capitol Building between Cedar and Park Streets
  • Aurora Avenue, North of Sears, off Rice Street
Metered city street parking is patrolled and enforced by the City of St. Paul. Parking meters typically take quarters only, with one quarter buying 12 minutes of parking time.
